Bolt of Cloth is a lovely fabric store at The Colombo Prescient. The store itself is rather neutral to give way to the shock of colour and pattern that hits you as you walk in the door. There is also a couple of very clever sliding fabric displays designed by the owner’s husband (showcasing a bit of Kiwi ingenuity…) to translate the huge number of fabric designs into a format that would fit into the petite store.
The website is pretty neat too. It is designed to supplement your shopping experience, as opposed to being an alternative, with the intention that you visit the website first then go to the store to look at the fabric samples in person.
Bolt of Cloth stocks fabrics from NZ and Australia as well as brands Marimekko (Finland), Alexander Henry (USA) and Echino (Japan). A lot of the fabrics are 1960s and 1970s inspired with far out prints. They also sell home furnishings such as mugs and the fabrics can be used as art in the form of canvas prints.
