Story restaurant on Christchurch’s picturesque New Regent Street offers an intimate, relaxed and unique dining experience that’s not to be missed. The petite upstairs dining space can squeeze up to thirty people in one sitting, and downstairs offers an option of street-side dining for six. If you enjoy watching the chef at work, there’s enough room for two at the bar along the open kitchen.

The dining experience at Story is anything but ordinary. With a set menu being your only option, the pressure of decision-making is taken out of the equation. So, sit back, relax and enjoy good conversation while being well looked after and well-fed. An extensive wine list celebrating Waipara wines may perhaps be the only cause for a moment of deliberation.

The menu at Story changes every night according to what produce is available locally. Current Chef Shafeeq sources all the ingredients for the kitchen himself, and uses his creativity to come up with simple, yet delicious dishes that are bound to surprise and delight. There is no label that could simplify the cuisine that is created here.  Story is inspired by global food culture and celebrates each chef’s own style of cooking. From time to time the restaurant hosts pop-up events and invites guest chefs to showcase their cooking.

Open five nights a week and with limited space, it is advised to book ahead to avoid disappointment. Though when possible, Story does invite walks-ins. If you’re on the lookout for somewhere nice to merely have a glass of good wine and a small bite to eat, the bar snack menu may just do the trick.
