Duck Island is Hamilton’s premier ice cream parlour, well known for their enormous variety of one-of-a-kind, genius-inspired flavours. Quite literally the talk of the town, they offer a staggering range of ice creams from popcorn, condensed milk and toasted marshmallows, to old-time Kiwi favourites such as mint chocolate chip.

There are a number of vegan options available for the conscientious dessert lover (and all of their dairy-free ice creams are made with delicious coconut milk). You can taste test a few of their many flavours before choosing your scoop, or pick up a tub for your freezer back home.

This sunny little joint is beautifully decorated with bright pastel colours and large ferns and is a great spot to curl up with a friend. Duck Island began as a part of the dessert menu at the award-winning restaurant Chim Choo Ree, and the demand for their delicious ice-creams was such that they opened a separate establishment.

People come from far and wide to taste the extravaganza, and you shouldn’t be surprised to find a queue out the door. With organic, ethically sourced ingredients, and an ever-changing menu, it’s hard to find an excuse to stay away from this cute little ice cream shop on the corner of Grey Street in East Hamilton. Next time you’re feeling a bit down in the dumps, visit Duck Island and cheer yourself up with a triple scoop.
