Te Atamira, meaning platform or stage in te reo Māori, is a multi-purpose arts and cultural space that invites the community to embrace creativity in their daily lives. Located in the Remarkables Park Town Centre, just around from the airport, Te Atamira hosts a wide-ranging programme of exhibitions, workshops, performances and community-oriented events.

Featuring 21 purpose-built spaces, the hub is brought to life with people engaging in a range of mediums and artistic practices. From painting studios to dance studios (complete with a glimmering disco ball), recording studios to art galleries showcasing local work, pottery workshops to theatre spaces, and inclusive hang-out areas, there’s something for everyone.

And with so many spaces, comes a jam-packed calendar of free events, workshops and classes led by resident artists, and regular shows. Pop along to community sing-a-longs, discover the joyful rhythms of latin soul, modern jive or afro dance, pick up a musical instrument, try your hand at life drawing, enrol your children in art classes or drama school, and attend world-class performances of comedy, music and theatre. There’s never a dull moment here.

Whether you’re visiting for a moment of creative inspiration (and a nosy around the very well-curated gift shop) or looking to nurture your wellbeing through a new artistic passion, Te Atamira is the beating cultural heart of the Whakatipu region, open seven days a week.
