If the timber letters spelling out ‘Coffee & Bagels’ overhead aren’t an obvious enough announcement of your arrival at Wānaka's Curbside, then the aroma of freshly ground coffee and the sounds of a busy barista working the machine will certainly grab your attention.
Curbside’s vertical timber-clad container is a beacon on the edge of the Wānaka food truck village. Situated in a tranquil garden oasis complete with long stone steps leading down to a spring-fed creek, it’s easy to forget that you’re not in your grandmother’s backyard nor lost in a daydream inspired by the pages of a novel.
This zone is home to a bunch of other food trucks, but the morning-friendly hours of Curbside mean that any patrons will practically have the area to themselves. The various seating options speak of the friendly, accessible and down-to-earth nature of the place. Take your freshly toasted bagel over to one of the large picnic tables under the fairy-light strung timber pergola, or perch up at the leaner and people-watch the busy street.
Curbside is a local café attending to the need for consistently good coffee and breakfast options, conveniently located just a few paces off the footpath. If you’re a regular, there’s a high chance your order will be prepared as soon as you’re spotted making your way down the street. Otherwise, all you have to do is step through the opening in the low stone wall and make the somewhat tricky decision of which bagel (or cabinet treats) and accompanying caffeinated beverage you’ll be having from the menu. Their iced oat flat whites are a big hit in the warmer months, and the famous chorizo and jalapeño cheese scones are always popular.
Swing by Curbside for breakfast, lunch or anything in between. Spend a moment beside the meandering stream, satiate your stomach’s desires and get a healthy dose of fresh mountain air at the same time.
