Hidden away from street view on Wellington's main Aro Valley shopping strip, you’ll find Abel Fabriek (the Dutch word for ‘factory’ - a nod to Abel’s Amsterdam roots).
The space is part perfumery, part elegant retail store, inviting Wellingtonians to a scent experience like no other. Stroll down the driveway, and you’re at once struck by the clean, no-nonsense nature of the Fabriek.
Plain white surfaces (weatherboard outside, brick inside) are set against an abundance of polished stainless steel surfaces - from the sign by the door to the partitions and commercial benchtops.
Beakers, flasks and vials are arranged immaculately around the shop, a hint of the relentless experimentation that takes place within. It can look almost utilitarian, but the message is clear: the Fabriek is a place where your nose, not your eyes, takes the lead.
Having the production facility and the flagship store in the same space means visitors can be taken through the end-to-end Abel journey. With its clear vision of crafting 100% natural perfumes, transparency is key for Abel - and it’s not only found in the array of glass vessels around the shop.
Take your time here; it’s not a place to be shy. Test and sample first-hand the sophisticated Parfum Extrait line and ask all the questions you want - the staff are more than happy to open up. With inspiration drawn from Europe, Abel brings an ethical, world-leading range of perfumes to the heart of quaint little Aro Valley.
Much like the complex formulae that make up its products, the Abel Fabriek combines ethical practices and an innovative spirit with the best of Wellingtonian creativity.
