So Vintage in the centre of Hastings is a treasure trove of antique, vintage and industrial style furniture and decor pieces. When owners Korreen and Mehdi moved from France (Medhi’s homeland) to New Zealand (Korreen’s), they saw a gap in the market for selling unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that have a story and history behind them.

What once was two shopfronts on Heretaunga Street East has been lovingly made over into one, and the original art deco detailing and high ceilings have been restored in the shop - quite fitting for a store called So Vintage! The large space allows for the pieces to be displayed in a way that shows off their full potential, and those browsing can visualise how these items can work in their own homes.

Sourcing products for So Vintage is very much a treasure hunt and all about buying and stocking what they love. Medhi travels back to France periodically and drives the length of the country, scouring cities and villages for the best pieces and ones he knows their customers will respond to. This process isn’t an exact science. Instead, it is very intuitive, and they buy with their eye leaning towards elegant simplicity.

From simple stools and vases to much larger furniture items and expansive wall prints, it’s well worth a visit to So Vintage, you never know what you might find.
